Paws For Thoughts: The Fox Sales Team Is Made Up Of Media-Industry Road Warriors

It’s just like it used to be (before COVID)…only different!
At Fox Associates, we were always known as the sales team that made face-to-face calls with our customers in their offices—it was four or five per day in the city, with fewer in the suburbs or smaller areas.

Then COVID hit, and boom, total isolation for all of us. I’m glad we all survived medically, but I don’t think it was all that good for us personally or socially, and it certainly took its toll on our/everyone’s business.

Now some customers and prospects are returning to their offices, so we can see them there.
But until that changes from “some” customers to all of them, all the time, we have trade shows. Show after show after show for each element of a business, some that are segments served by associations, and others operated by other producers. They provide plenty of space for everyone to mingle.
Here’s what the last week of March looked like:
Monday: Chief Growth Officer Bill Bell and Sales VP Joan Rizzo are in Washington, D.C.
Tuesday: Bill and Joan are still in D.C.; COO Steve Schwanz is in Baltimore; Sales VPs Tina Riley and Patrick Carriglio are in Alabama.

Wednesday: Bill and Joan still in Washington, but Bill on his way to New Orleans at night; Steve is still in Baltimore; Tina and Patrick are still in Alabama.
Thursday: Everyone headed home except for Bill, who remains in New Orleans.
Friday: At last, Bill heads home to Detroit, having just about traversed the whole USA!
The point is, we work the shows; we build relationships; we gather critical information; we set the stage to close business in the weeks that follow.
