Dana Gray is one of those essential people for any organization. They’re perhaps not as high-profile, or public facing, as some others, but they perform their jobs efficiently and well, contributing to the overall corporate culture in valuable ways. In the case of Dana, we don’t mean she’s essential just because she manages cashflow and accounting, either. It’s that and much more.
We’ve said it before, and it’s worth repeating here: Fox Tales is all about telling the stories of our friends, partners and customers, as well as offering insights into the world of media. From time to time, we also highlight our own people, so that readers get to know us not just as business acquaintances, but as people, with families, avocations, experiences.
This month, as part of our “Getting To Know A Fox” series, we focus on Dana with a brief, engaging semi-biography.
Fox Tales: Tell us about your work life at Fox Associates. What’s your day-to-day routine like, especially as it pertains to interactions with Fox customers?
Dana Gray: Even though it is the nature of our business to expect the unexpected, I start each day out way before arriving at work by planning my priority tasks for the day. I also incorporate some form of learning into my routine, to prepare me for the day ahead. Once at work, and armed with a cup of coffee, I balance my to-do’s with supporting all Fox stakeholders, both internally and externally. Being able to interact with our customers and industry partners is particularly fun! Each has needs as unique as the industries they represent.
Fox Tales: You’ve been with the company, I believe, for close to 15 years. How do you explain your longevity?
Gray: Correct, close to 15 years! It is my nature to push myself outside of my comfort zone. I continue to keep learning and challenging myself to grow and be indispensable—just like Fox Associates!
Fox Tales: In a few sentences, tell us about the Fox Associates USP and corporate ethos.
Gray: Regardless of what role each of us plays, or what our communication style is, it is all about building relationships.
Fox Tales: Tell us about yourself. Where have you lived, where do you live now and what do you like best about those places?
Gray: I’m a Chicago native, and I have lived all over the Chicagoland area. The many cultures and foods are what I like best.
Fox Tales: What are some of your avocations?
Gray: I am a jane-of-all-trades! Above all, I am a lifelong learner. I also occasionally moonlight writing resumes and cover letters, and provide accounting and consulting services.
Fox Tales: Tell us something about yourself that is sort of surprising—a skill, an experience, etc.
Gray: I have a professional background in art and have had my projects of various mediums displayed at museums and historical societies all around Chicago.
